A friend of mine just bought a fire eel and asked me how many cubes of blood worms he should feed his 16-18 inch fire eel...

Since my friend speaks ZERO english, i'm now posting on MFK to ask A) many cubes of blood worms should he feed his eel and B) How many times a day should he feed it???

what tank size does he have him in? when i had my 19" one i would feed him every other day.

None. It would take a TON of blood worms to fill up an eel that size, and blood worms aren't very nutritious either. Eels at that size need to be fed krill, shrimp, feeders (only if they were bred by the owner), earthworms, nightcrawlers, etc. And as for how much, he should either feed it until it stops accepting food, or until its belly starts to look full (whichever comes first).

Oh I didn't see that part before. I agree with Loves sev's on that one, it is best to feed it at least 3-4 times per week. I feed my tire track eel (a close relative to the fire eel) almost every day, I probably skip maybe two days in an average week.

That not good for it. :grinno:
Yeah flakes are even less nutritious and would quickly foul up the water.

Thanks for all the info, i'll be sure to pass this onto my friend, although i have a feeling hes going to be disappointed to hear that hes going to need to find extra alternatives to feed his fish...

Unfortunately that is part of keeping specialist fish, it is a shame the seller did not educate him on it. My Fire Eel eats on demand, if he swims around I feed him but then he may stay hidden for a day or so, then he may eat every day for 3 days and then hide again.

^ Yeah well he did get it in Hong Kong, and shops here are NOTORIOUS to give you the wrong info... at least according to my friend hes now got it eating other foods so just gonna wait and see how his eel does...
