I'm looking to P/U a UV sterilizer to help control algae in my 90gal. I'm curious if there's any available that I don't have to run inline or in a sump.

Not sure what ya mean bro, but I'm looking for something that can HOB and doesn't need an additional pump.

Uv sterilizers go inline with the filter outflow (the water needs to e filtered first) you'll need either a canister filter
or a sump and its plumbed into the return line also you'll need cutoff valves soyou can remove it monthly for cleaning and yearly bulb replacement

Thanks blondie.

I know the basic mechanics, but have heard of some HOB UVs and wondered what they're all about. Nothing great I guess. :D

I haven't heard of one that will hang on the back. And you are going to have to have a pump. Water isn't going to flow out of your tank and back in without one. If there is a self contained unit in hob form, you don't want it unless it is going on a ten gallon guppy tank. The size of a small one is sizable enough to need to put it under the tank stand.

There are UV powerheads, I would get one of them.

you can make any uv sterilizer hang on the back of the tank . all you need is some hose and a powerhead to to push water though it . powerhead in the tank attached to hose that runs out of the tank to the uv sterilizer and a hose running back in the tank from u v sterilizer . the powerhead does all you need . i am running a turbo twist like this . works great .

if you want me to show you a picture of it just pm me and i will send . i think i described it right though but if you need a visual i would be happy to send it to you
