In my own little world
I'm interested in getting some EBs and was wondering how many could be housed in a 30 gallon tank?

Filtration on the tank is almost 7x (200/hr) and I would probably only keep a couple of large corys to clean up the bottom with them.

I've been told that 6 is okay. But in the past I only kept a pair of RJDs in the same size tank (of course that was back in the under-gravel filter days). I am aware that EBs don't reach the same size as RJDs but is 3 times the population okay?

I don't want them stressing out because of over crowding.

Thx

at adult size, I'd be surprised if any fit comfortably. EBJD can still get 8-9", just takes them a lot longer. You might be able to keep a breeding pair but they'd be cramped. More than that I just don't think would be possible.

:)

comfortably 0. for such a nice fish why would you want to cram it in such a small tank?

you could prolly put one MAYBE two in a 40g breeder or a standard 55g

If they are 1.5-2'' long.... All 6 of em. But plan on moving them within a few months. They do grow a little slower then the standards.

How I know you may be thinkin? (probably not, but) I have 6 male eb's, 4 female bg's, 2 male bg's, 2 female jd's and 1 male jd. Sizes from 3/4'' to almost 5''. The male jd is growing the quickest. The female jd's and female bg's are growing at about the same pace. The male eb's are growing the slowest at about 1/2'' a month.

I think you could keep 6 in it as a juvi grow out tank...

I would expect to start loosing some due to aggression before they reach 3"...

Once they reach sexual maturity, if a pair forms the pair will kill the rest either by direct aggression or causing excessive stress. Since these fish are prone to illnesses stress can lead to illness which can then infect the unstressed fish...

At Adult size a 30 gal will not be a suitable house for a lone male nor a pair... I have a Blue male that is a bit over the 9" mark. I'd feel very sorry for him cramped in a 36" x 12" tank...

But I wouldn't hesitate to use it as a grow out tank for a few months before introducing them to the 110!
