I've got a 100g growout of 10 juvies including a wolf fish (a mala, not a dovii). I usually put in 20 rosey reds or comet goldfish at a time about 2-4 times every other week. does anyone here put more that 20 at a time in the tank?

none unless you plan on breeding your own feeders. feeders have barely any nutritional value, and coming from an LFS have a high chance of being infested with parasites.

oh really? my mala is the one i'm worried about because he's not a pellet eater. maybe if i don't put feeders in he will eat pellets. i put in the feeders mainly for him so he won't mess with the other cihlids! lol

Like Agliata said.....feeder goldfish do not have any nutritional value and are more likely to give your fish disease and parasites. I would try to train your fish to eat a quality pellet food. Or breed your own fish to feed them. Convicts are great for that.

agree totally... feeders are not a good grow out food nutritionally and very likely a disease transmitter... much better to start young ones on flakes then pellets and then frozen... and then a good varied diet...and yes i would be worried now about all of them turning on each other.. once they are given live food and it becomes a habit very hard to change them.. perhaps the wolf may have to be separated for awhile until you get him use to pellets..

Well if he's only eating feeders you could try feeding him dead feeders, still not good but you can make a little slit in the stomach and fill it with pellets, that should pellet train him unless he wont go after them dead...

Always buy earthworms or raise them yourself.. if they come from an area where pestisides or insectisides are used it is just as bad as feeders... earthworms purify... but they are not able to rid themselves of these types of poisons...
