How many fish have you brought back from what you thought would be certain death this year? What was wrong and how did you save them?

Last week I save one of my flowerhorns. I was watching TV and heard a strange noise. I went into the fish room but all was quiet. I shrugged it off and went back to watch TV. No sooner did I sit down and I heard it again. I went back to the fish room lifted the lid on the suspect tank (wooden hood) to look, and sure enough there was a fish beeched on the center brace. I pushed him back into the water and he swam off like nothing ever happened. I dont know what made me lift the hood and look, but I'm glad I did. I laughed and told the fish "I just saved your life"

I hope we all here have helped to save fish.
Even if not literally, then via all the good advice to others given .

me and my brother were trimming his south american puffers' teeth, and to do that, you need to knock them out with a mix of water and clove oil. well, all went well until the second puffer. it was out of the water for too long, cause me bro couldn't stop his hand from shaking. so i grabbed the clippers, and i was already holding the puffer, and i started clipping. i did the 3rd puffer too. then after about 2 minutes, the first and third ones were swimming around, but the second one was still belly up. my brother was saying that it was dead, and it was his fault (which it was), but i grabbed that fish and spent 10 minutes recicitating it (pushing it back and forth in the water), and i saved that fish's life:headbang2. safe to say, i was very proud:D

My friend gave me one of her angel fish. She bought 2 of them, put them in a 2.5 gallon and crazily overfeed them. I mean crazily overfeed, I have no idea what she was thinking. When one of them died, she gave the other one to me. For the 30 mins she had it in a vase to give it to me, the bottom of the vase was filled with about .5cm of food! It actually wasn't this year, but have been about 8 months since I took it. All it needed was a clean tank to get it back into shape. So I took it into my 5.5 gallon that I had in my dorm. After a month or two, I put him in my 55 where he is doing great.

My largest koi was egg bound and looked really unwell and generally uneasy, didn't eat for ages.. I was sure she was going to die, and having no experience with this sort of problem before I was baffled...

Spoke to my local koi specialist, he told me keep the fish separated and in a heated tank, this would induce egg laying... The fish became less swollen after a week or so, although she is still some what bloated some 4-5 months later.

She is eating and healthy as ever, so although not fully back to health (this may take up to two years from what I've been told and read online) she's still alive to fight another day.

Two fish come to mind:

Moldy is a betta that was originally part of a wedding centerpiece. He was rescued by one of the wedding guests who ended up bringing 6 bettas home, rather than watch them flushed at the end of the reception. He posted them on craigslist and I said I'd take them.

Well, Moldy decided to take a carpet dive about 4 days before I ended up picking him, up, and I was told he'd been on the ground for approximately half an hour by the time he was found. His fins were just disintigrating with fungus, his slime coat was gone, and he had mouth fungus as well. I nursed him back to health with a Melafix/Pimafix combo for a week and now he's doing as well as any betta I've ever seen.

I also have Blindy - you can see some pictures of him and read about him here
