How many fry do female platies usually drop?

I have three pregnant female platies in a ten gallon heavily planted tank. They've been dropping babies for several weeks now, and there are probably over a hundred babies in the tank, but the females Don't seem to have gotten any less pregnant/fat.

How long does this usually go on?

I'm waiting for them to finish dropping so i can feed them to my knife and have more room for babies.

How long should I wait?

Their mother had them all in one day and died, but I've heard droppin one or two per day is more normal. This will be my third generation

mine droped like 30 a month, and watch out for inbreeding keep adding new fish from different lfs to keep the genes all good

I too have 3 pregnant ladies and so far it's been 1 or 2 here, 7 there, 4, then 10 at a time. There's no sure fire way to tell since platies can hold sperm and use it for 4 pregnancies! I have one lady that's been constantly pregnant for the better part of 5 months now, just dropping fry in batches with no real decrease in her belly size.

I would suggest removing any males to prevent any further sperm hoarding and eventually they'll run out of fry. Good luck and just stay patient!
