Hi everyone I have a empty 60 gallon (48" x 15.5 x 18") tank that I am planning on filling with some Geo tapajos Red Heads. Probably going to order 10 from Ken @ fishfarm. Then grow them out and get two to three pairs out of them. Just want to double check how many and sex ratios would go good in my size tank. Only other fish would be some lemon tetras and maybe rummy noses.
I also have a 85 gallon (48" x 18" x 23") filled with a Nic, Salvini, and Green Texas (all cichilds around 3-4 inch) with about 9 rainbow fish. Do you guys think I could swap the them around or will the CA be better off in the 85 gallon?

Either tank would be fine for now, but a larger footprint is always better for these guys (height doesn't matter too much). 10 sounds good to start with, but at some point you'll need to thin down to perhaps 6 when they get big.

About sex ratio...you won't be able to sex them for a little while, so maybe you can worry about that later :D

Up until recently I had 4 adults including 1 pair in a 60g.

I'd be sticking with 4. I plan to keep 4-6 in a 75G pending what happens with pairing etc.

:iagree:

With a 4 ft tank, that really isn't enough room for anymore than 4 adults. I would get a group of 5-6 and add a few dithers that stay in the top of the water column just to help add to the tank. I have a few Congo Tetras as my dithers(they were on sale at my LFS!). You can sell off a few Geos when your able to sex them. That is, if you are looking to breed them later.

BTW, Welcome to MFK!:)

Alright thank you everyone for the advice, I guess I will just grow them out and then save two pairs out of them later down the road. Sounds like I have enought time to get bigger tank for them
