How many comet goldfish would work in a 800 gallon pond?
I have a diy bio filter filled with lava rock and scrubbies. It keeps it filter good.
Also, I have read that comets can get to 14".....I have never seen one this size...do they really get that big?

Stocking density is dependent upon your filter's capacity to remove solid and chemical waste. As a general rule stock 1" of fish for every 10 gallons. This means about 8 10" fish, but you can stock much higher density than that will adequate filtration.

They do reach 12 inches up to 18 inches but it depends on how you accommodate them properly. In tanks, we usually aim for 20g per fish in pond type goldies. For a 800g, that would be 40 goldies. Remember the fish you buy are still young so you may have plenty of space for now and it eventually dwindles.

I have 13 comets right now....I thought about 20 max. I can't wait for them to get 12" or bigger.....biggest one right now is probably 8 or 9" but they were in a much smaller pond before my current pond. My filter does a great job of mechanical and bio filtration, so I should be good to go as far as filtration goes :)

Surface area also plays a factor.

my pond is mostly surface area (good or bad :) )
It isn't very deep.....17" deepest but it is around 10x15'. I had a pond that was only 14" deep and the fish did fine in the winter, so I'm not concerned about the cold.

I have had 15 comets in my 3000+ gallon pond for a year now. I am waiting for them to breed, rather than buying any lol

Since I can get feeders for .20 each....I'm not to worried about cost of the fish :)
