hello all sorry for so many threads lately its just that i finnaly got a tank set up properly with fish i am realy interested in. i appreciate everyones time help and patience. i am growing out 10 gymno quillero in my 36" 58 gallon same foot print as a 40 breeder but taller. will all 10 live in this tank for life i know they like being in groups but will i have to cut the group back to 4 or 5. and would a pair of red ceibal or crencichla work with them in this tank thanks so much for any advice or help.

The whole group of Quilero will work. That's plenty of room for more than one male and bunch of females.

The chanchitos can be more problemmatic. I've kept them together with Gymnos in a 3' tank ... and they kept the Gymnos from breeding. They bred but both beat on the Gymnos and weren't successful in guarding their babies.

I'd mix a rhabdotus-type gymno pair with the ones you have, as well as a bunch of tetras and/or cory cats

thanks for the reply they are currently in with 9 lemon tetras and 6 black neon tetras i was just lookin for some more native kinda stuff

what would be a rhabdotus pair that would work well and why would i mix them with a quillero colony, thanks for your help

i plan on keeping a group of 5-6 in my 75g. i have 4 but it looks like i have more males than females and one of my females aren't looking so good :( i also have a few cory and im going to move my pike in with them when they get large enough. im hoping to get some larger ones from ken when he gets back.

that sounds excelent i hope you find some more females, so would all 10 quillero be ok in my tank or shopuld i thin it out as they grow

thanks for the info bill thats what i seem to be finding that they are very territorial and agresive when breeding. im thinking ill stick with gymnos and tetras i just dont know what a good number of the gymnos to keep in my tank is.
