Hey folks,

Just wondering if anyone can offer their expertise :)

Im having a couple of Srt breeders(pic in av) sent from Germany on Tuesday to get here on Wednesday but the Uk temperature overnight will be around 0oC!!

How many heatpacks would it take too keep temperatue warm enough so they can have more chance of making it in such cold temps?! Ive suggested 2 24hr heat packs but not sure if its enough ...

Paid extra for the tranship cost a total of 415usd for shipping alone too get here in Scotland Uk before 10am the next day so total shipping time will not be too long at around 13-20hrs.

Could probably get away with 1 24hr heatpack if you insulate the package very well. Perhaps get some rigid foam insulation and line a cardboard box with it.

415 USD for shipping? Damn.

Unless they make different types that I don't know about, heat packs stop working once there is no oxygen in the container. I would use just one for that reason. Insulate the box well by adding newspaper between the polystyrene and the box itself.

Yeah paid 415usd for tranship before 10am delivery next day for less transit time :) Actual tranship cost is more expensive than the Srt breeders!!Although this was after waiting 4 months looking for a transhipper so hopefully that lets me off the hook! ;p

Aight cool appreciate the advice .. now bit more confused since me mate Pikey a member here suggested 3 heat packs during these temperatures since he had a shipment come through safely last winter but was with 3 heat packs!!

Think some extra research is required just too make sure since what a waste of 415usd tranship cost if they were to come in frozen!! oh ya, forgot to mention the sizes of the SRT's, male is 7" and female is 5" and also the box may be quite big but awaitng response for the transhipper about this one, cheers again! :)

This suggestion has not real experience to back it, but if you perforated the box a couple times, perhaps you could do two heat packs without the threat of depleting the oxygen. Hopefully someone who has shipped in these conditions chimes in. If not, you could maybe ask a lfs where their stock comes from, the duration of the shipping process, and how they are packaged.
