I am still setting up my 125 gallon aquarium (6ft x 18 inches). I wanted to be a polypterus setup with some friends (african butterfly, african knife, and Ctenopoma). How many polypterus would I be able to keep in with them? This biggest polypterus I would keep would be a Teugelsi.

What polys other than teugelsi would you be keeping? with that 18" foot print I wouldn't put any more than about 10 or so however that number can move up and down depending on filtration and poly choice.

currently I have 2 del and 2 senegalus (one albino) they are 3-5 inches. I wanted some ropefish, and a few different palmas. I said Teugelsi because I was looking at sizes and that seemed like the biggest that can be kept my 18" footprint.

Hmmmm well Idk Teugelsi from what I have seen get bigger than Ornates and Weeksii so I wouldn't recommend keeping a teugelsi in that foot print. I'd stick with any Upper jaws besides teugelsi, ornates, and weeksii. However weeksii take forever to grow so you could house the weeksii for a long amount of time before you would have to consider rehoming or retanking it. I would say with the polys you have now you could add about 3-5 more polys to stay on the comfortable side. Once you go over that amount if you over filter you could still be good, but it may start to get crowded. (that is not including ropefish since ropefish are we slender and flexible they can easily maneuver in the 18" footprint you can fit about 5-6 ropes along with about 6-8 polys)

Pretty good advice here.
