What do you want? Name some species you would be interested in

I would say it depends on what kind of fish and how good of filtration you have....I like slightly overstocking tanks....keeps aggression down (less areas to make a territory)...
I just do more water changes and keep my filter pads clean....

16-20 10" and under sa/ca cichlids can live comfortably in a 180g tank. You could even put a couple of other type fish in there too.

WELL AT THE MOMENT I HAVE A 9-10 ARGENT.... AND 2 OTHER VIEJA WHICH ARE LIKE 4-6 INCHES AND A MINI DOVII AND 2 LARGE HYBRID PARROTS AND 2 OTH SMALL HYBRIDS AND THEN I WANT TO GET LIKE 2 GOLDEN OSCAR 2 MORE VIEJA AND A TRUE GREEN TERROR AND PROBABLY 2 MORE OTHER CICHLIDS

viejas dont like each other...
and what idiot is behind the philosophy 16 10" in a 180 gallon?
its usually 10" of cichli per 50 gallons.
so realistically you should only have 8 monsters in there if you would like to overstock it.

I have 14 in my 210 right now. Of those 14, 5-6 are still juvies (under 5 inches). I have to do large 75%+ water changes every 5-7 days to keep my nitrates down. To keep my water quality in check once they are all grown I would doing massive water changes aver 3 days or so. To qualitfy my statement I will add two things. One, I like low nitrates...less than 20-25 ppm. Second, there is no "rule". Heck if you are up for the water changes then you can put in as many as aggression and your ability to keep the nitrates low allows. My plan once they are grown in to have 8-10 in my tank.

In my opinion if you try all those in a 180 you will have a life of water changes galor when they are all grown, and eventually death. The two oscar alone take up 75-100 gallons of your bio-load.

I think I'd tame down the "idiot comments" a bit. No need. I actually don't think he's too far off. Some like yourself have your guidelines and rules, others like myself have a different opinion. Usually 10" of cichla per 50......what the hell is that a quote from a book? You can put as many as will get along, with whatever maintenance you enjoy or don't mind doing. Check out Bderick's 180 in his sig...it's killer.
