Im thinking about getting a 180 gallon and wanted to know how many full grown central and south american cichlids.

8-12 inches?? maybe 8 with a very regular water change schedule and exceptional biofiltration. In that case, aggression will begin to become an issue. In reality, as long as you don't have aggression issues, you could put 20 of them in there, provided you were changing 50% twice a day w/ a couple Fluval FX5's on there.

Long story short, there's not enough info here. How much maintenance are you willing to do, and which fish do you want to keep? Blue acaras, or discus, or angels(4-6 in.)... a couple dozen. Oscars, managuense, flowerhorns (12-16 in.)... maybe 4 or 5(with a standard weekly 50% WC schedule).

i have a

9"-10"Vieja argentea
3"-4"Vieja fenestratus
4"-5"Vieja synspilum
12"urau

and i want to get a
4"-4.5"Vieja melanurus
4"-4.5"barred midas
4"-4.5"colored midas

Filtration? What kind of maintenance are you willing to do? I'd say, with standard filtration and maintenance, you could probably get away with it, but I'd ditch one of the Midases to stay on the safe side... w/ extra filtration, a thorough water change schedule, and a lot of vision blockers and territory dividers(although, with this mix, I don't foresee too many aggression problems), that'd be a good mix to be putting in there. Good luck with it, and as always, don't forget to post some pics when it's all said and done!!:D
