I have four demasoni's right now in a 55 gallon, and I was wondering how if I could get more or if thats pushing it? Does anybody think Peacock cichlids would be compatible with them too?

For demasoni you should have at least 12. They are nasty with each other. If you keep too few they will kill each other off until you only have one left. A great set up for a 55 gallon(with good filtration) is 12 demasoni and about 6-7 electric yellows (Labidochromis caeruleus).

As for the peacocks, the demasoni will be WAY too aggressive for them.

I had 13 dems and 7 yellow labs in my 55. Still have the 7 labs but only 3 dems. They are beautiful fish but nasty bastards.
What happened to your Dems ?
I think ash54876 offers a good solution. I started with Dems and Labs and they got along fine.
I have a dozen plus Dems in my community tank and don't find them to be particularly aggressive. The Obliquden Zebra's and Red Face Macs cause much more havoc. I do think the length of the tank has something to do with them all being relatively peaceful. They rarely chase each other the full 8' length of the tank.

I also need to know how many is too many?

My setup:
75g with built in overflow
30g sump

My fish list:
1 Nimbochromis Sp. Venustus
1 Labidochromis sp. "Mbamba"
1 Labidochromis Caeruleus - electric yellow
1 Lepidiolamprologus kendalli
1 Tilapia Buttikoferi
1 Pundamilia Nyererei
1 Nandopsis octofasciatum
1 Pseudotropheus demasoni
1 Aulonocara sp. - Red Peacock or Red German

Is this too much? Room for more? thought and comments wanted!

Thanks

There's no magic number for overstocking. It depends on your filtration, your water, your rock setup and other equipment. I've seen majorly overstocked tanks, but the filtration was massive.

I agree with most posters in this thread. I had 12 demasoni, 7 yellow labs, and 4 acei. The demasoni always had nipped fins and some died. A month ago, I increased my demasoni to 19 and everything is great. No nipped fins, no deaths, and lower aggression.

In your 55 gallon, I would start with 20 demasoni since you may lose a few and 6 high-quality yellow labs. These two look great together
