Stocking my new tank, the tank is 6' long, 18" wide, and 2' deep. So far I've added 6 albino cories, 3 up side down cats, 4 polka dot loaches and 4 ottos, The fish range from .5 inch to 1.5 inch in length, can I still add more fish for mid and top water? thanks:grinno:

you should be able to. the fish are very tiny and most of the ones you got dont really get that big. ur tank is like a 135gal which is pretty big. hopefully ur filtration is decent so it can handle the bio load but u should be able to add more fish in there.

135 gal. tank, huh? the guy I bought the tank from thought it was 100 gal. tank, maybe he didn't know what he had.
As for filtration, its got two aqua tech 40-60 (hang on the back) filters, plus I got a sump? with it, but I have to replace a leaky hose before I can use it.
thanks for getting back with me so quick.

deffinatly not a 100gal. a 100gal would be about 5ft long, 18wide, 24tall. yours is an xtra 12" which adds to around 35. so ur tank is a 135, congrats on snaggin a larger tank then you thought! lol. and get that sump up n running. ur lil aqua tech 40-60's are weak and will not suffice enough filtration for all ur fish. you can get around this with doing more water changes but more filtration is the better route.

The only thing keeping me from using the sump is finding hose to fit (to replace the leaky one), it is either too small or too large! I have a couple of other places to try, if I can't find it there, I guess I'll have to hard plumb it.
As for water changes, is twenty percent weekly, too much? And can I cut back to every other week once I get the sump up an running?
Thanks, again

every other week should be fine as long as ur filtration is tip top and ur not freeding like crazy. other wise 20% weekly should be okay with the size fish u have right now.

ever thought of ram cichlids you could get a holl bunch or do you want something bigger

Yes, I thought about rams, but the only ones I've seen at the local lfs have been sickly. I really haven't set my mind on what I want to put in the tank yet, theres just so many neat fish I'd like to get, but just don't have the space:cry:. I guess thats why so many of you here have multiple tanks.

i guess the important thing is simple rationale and basic common visuals and understanding, as long the fishes and tankmates have sufficient space to swim and do not get cramp and squeeze effect, they should be comfortable and do not obstruct each terratory, then that should be fine, own judgement counts alot! cheers!

I beleive TFH had the article about pocket sized pikes. They listed the gold wonder killi which I thought was unusual, then Miles threw in some feeders with them and I got to witness firsthand the brute "carnosity" (look it up in the Walctionary) still they would leave the other fish in your tank alone.
