How many jewel cichlids in a 29g?

I have my 29g planted tank up and running!
I am now thinking of putting a pair of jewel cichlids and some african butterfly fish.
Will the jewel cichlids dig up my plants?
is a pair a good amount? how many african butterfly fish?

2 of them/a pair would be OK. I wouldnt do anymore. Also, with the ABF maybe 2 of them as well.

Have them buried good, because sometimes they will scavenge around the gravel and may knock a plant loose because of it.

yes, they will attempt to pull them up. as was said make sure they are buried good and place a couple of larger rocks.
