As the title says I am looking into getting some L66 and eventually breeding them, but just enjoying them for the first couple months or so. I was wondering how many I could possibly have in there and what the m/f ration? Some other questions I have are what substrate would they prefer and that would make them comfortably or look good and preferably what kind of sand? I would have a couple pieces of driftwood in there, some slate, with an eheim 2217 as filtration (and possibly either a fluval 306/cascade 1000). Also was wondering what to feed them I have read they are mainly carnivorous and will feed on shrimp pellets, bloodworms, and other meaty foods. I was wondering if that is true if I could feed tilapia, catfish, and other foods like that at the fish market? I also read that they will still need some sort of veggies so I was wondering if I could feed food like carrots, broccoli, and zucchini? Thanks for reading and hopefully answering these questions

I've heard soil is good and that RO water helps with breeding is that true? Also looking for some sexing tips as I have researched and have picked up that females have "v" shaped heads while makes have more rounded heads. And that females have a larger body or their shoulder are father apart. And another thing I've read is that females also have "hair" but not nearly as much as males. I have also read that subdominant males show some characteristics like not as much hair. And tips or clarifies would be awesome

I've read places that soil is the best substrate and to only use RO water. Is that true or are there other ways to induce spawning? I was thinking about just white caribsea sand, and normal treated tap water while using necessary things to adjust Ph to needed levels.

Bump anyone have any info or tips to keeping/breeding?

I keep l333 and they are both hypans with the same habitats. I would do sand substrate, driftwood and slate sound good and some caves. One piece of advice that I got
From a breeder was to only keep one cave and the dominant male will take it over. I however keep one cave per male but I have yet to get them to breed. In a 40 gallon I would keep
6 adults with lots of hiding places. If you are buying them small get more until you can sex them and keep a heavy female ratio. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I will be getting them around 3"-4". I was reading that some sub-dominant males will not show male traits or at least not to an obvious extent. So I also read once a dominant male is taken out of a tank another will get dominant male traits and become the dominant male. So is that true? And if that's true could I possibly remove the dominate male once he becomes dominant then keep
removing males as they keep showing traits? And when I have a count on all the males and females put the males I want to breed back into the tank. Just an idea as I've heard that it can be somewhat difficult to sex them especially with subdominant males

Oh and what size pleco caves should I get? And should I get rectangle, oval, or circular?
