Converting my 55 to a community tank. I want some loaches but I know the do grow to a respectable 4-10". I like skunks , clowns, polka-dot and bengal loaches . So it will be a group of one of those types. So how many can live in 55 g?

I think you could keep around 20-30 of the smaller loaches. I wouldn't do clown's unless you have a larger tank to put them in or plan on selling them.

I've turned my 55 gallon into a loach tank. Right now I have 6 zebra loaches an 5 yoyo

From my experiance... Clown Loaches Dont grow very fast so, If you DO have a larger tank, Go For It! Remember, When clown loaches are large, they can be kept with larger more aggressive fish! (mine are with a aro and 2 oscars...)

What about skunks?

Personally I have no experience with the skunks but the bit of reading is that the don't do well with their own species. If that's the case that's lame cause the best part of keeping loaches is watching the play an chase each other around the tank. Maybe some one else has kept them in groups I don't know.

Here's where I got my info
