I have a 72x24x24 aquarium. it is 180 gallons. how many new world or american cichlids can i keep in my tank? or how many inches of these fish would be acceptable. thanks for your helpp! :)

You have hundreds of possible choices ranging from a big community of different species to a single pair of large aggressive fish. Depends on what you want... color, size, variety, a single pet, etc.

Theres no certain amount per tank size. Cichlids (like all other living things) come in all sizes, attitudes, shapes, colors, lengths etc.

Perhaps youd bet better off listing the fish youd like to keep and letting people tell you if they would co-exist together.

the only real correct answer on this is 1..... now that can change of course, you can have many succesfully live together wich tons of us do and prefer. lots to take into consideration. what kind? whats your landscape like in the tank? how much filtration do you have to handle the load? do you ever plan on getting a bigger tank? the more info you provide the better mfk can help!

lots of rocks and hiding places

and a strong powerhead.. i forget what it was called? something 1400? haha

this is our first tank but we could always go bigger

The EBJD prob won't work, but everything else seems fine. It depends on the personality of each individual fish really... just make sure you introduce all of them young if possible, at the same time... and keep an eye on the red devil.

Lots of caves and driftwood and [if you want] add some fake plants for extra cover.

BIG no on the RD & EBJD.

99% chance the RD will be the only fish in your tank 6 months later.

If there is any 1 cichlid that ISNT a community fish and has about 0 chance of ever being one, its the RD. It will decimate all other fish in the tank by the time its about 6 inches. Just use the search here on MFK about red devils. Killing machines that dont quit. Thats it. If you like their looks, try a midas...you at least have a 10% chance of them being community fish vs. the RD having .0001%

The EBJD is too passive for that community. It needs to go with tetras, other EBJDs or way less aggro fish than sals & convicts.

Youre listing petsmart availability type fish. Look at the vendors on here and you can see a WAY bigger selection of things you dont even know exist probably.
