Hey guys!

I am planning a 250 gallon (6.5' x 2.6' x 2') which translates into 960 liters (200 x 80 x 60).
Initially, my 180 gallon was meant to have a pack of predators, but since I formed a pair of Aurantis, and fell in love, that is no longer possible!

So, you know, I just have to get a new tank right? ;)
It should be ordered and placed around december 2015 - january 2016, and if I want to save the money for it and not delay it further into 2016, I need to make plans, get myself excited with the stocklist I will have, etc. (Am I alone on this one? xD)

Anyway, what is set in stone, right now, is an arowana (probably african), at least one cichla kelberi, and a tigrinus or juruense (depending on availability).
Ideally, it'll have a pack of 6 to 8 channa pleurophthalma, but not only are they HARD to come by, they also bring the risk of having a pair form up, in which case, I'll end up with another very big tank with two fishes and a lot of dead monsters!

So the real question, I suppose, is:
How many Odoe can I keep for life in a 250 gallon, with at least these 3 fishes already in, to replace the pleuros?

Thank you :)

DB junkie DB junkie : Seems like you'd be the one to know after doing a bit of digging through the boards :D

I have 225 gallon 6x3x1.5s and while I do think they're a little short for rays and Odoe I do think the 6 I have seem fine in them....... I'd say 6. Although some might say it may be possible to end up with the same outcome as the snakehead and eventually 2 may pair up. I've never had it happen, but my tanks are usually communities where the Odoe is far from the dominant fish.

Thanks for the reply DB, and duly noted!
Perhaps 5 to be sure, allowing some squeezing to add something at a later time.

The difference between Channa and Odoe pairing is that Channa pairing actually has a market. I could find a home for at least a third of my juvies, while I don't think there's more than 10 people in the whole of Belgium who would be interested in Odoe babies... Belgium sucks like that. :(

So I could totally rehouse one of the pair if one forms, rendering the aggressiveness null and void, without having to completely throw my project out the window.

I like to think of an Aro/Afro and cichla to be able to hold their own against a few Odoe, and I was thinking of perhaps adding a wolf, but I have absolutely NO idea what wolf I could add, in that volume, without taking the risk of seeing my entire population turn into expensive snacks. Plus, I kind of value my fingers. ;D

I have an Ery Ery coming this friday for one of the smaller tanks, but I highly doubt he would hold his own in with those kind of fishes. If i'm wrong, I've found the wolf I want. ;)

Anyway, thanks for your input, it is definitely highly valued and appreciated, which is why I love this website, whatever category you're trying to ask questions, you'll always have someone with experience and patience (I do take patience at times ;P) to guide you through your trials (and hopefully not too many errors :O)

The ery ery will need his own tank. The cichla, Chana or cats will eventually get him. You may take the risk if u want. Your fish at the end of the day. Just IMO.

Sorry to jump in the thread like that. Hate to see a red wolf go down.

Yeah I figured, I still am getting it, just it goes to the tank I had planned for him, and only him. :)

Perhaps I'll find me a nice wolf for the 250g!

Edit: And don't apologize for jumping in, that's exactly what I need, people's input :)

I currently house an Intermedius and 4 Iguazas with my Odoe. Have also kept them with Aimara and Australis in the past. Never had an issue. I think these species work well together as long as they are similarly sized...... :)

Amazing :D

I wanted to get myself excited to keep saving the money, and be ready by december, I definitely am excited!

Thanks DB :D

From my experience: you can keep two in that size tank, once a pair forms...

And BTW my wolf ate the female... Beware of wolves...
