How many of you actually put some sort of foam under your aquarium?
If you do, what type do you use? Im in process of building a stand for my 220 and wondering
if i should use foam or not.
i have foam under the tanks that the stand is open for insulation purposes.. and on the stand that the acrylic tank is on just for insurance, as much as i trust the man that i bought the stand from the wood is only pressboard and i don't trust it not to warp.
i put 1/2'' styrofoam under my 300. Is it glass or acrylic. If it is glass you really don't need it. But if it is acrylic it is not manditory but it is reassurance and with 220 gallons of water i would take all the reassurance i could get.
i got 1/2" styro under my tank too, homedepot insulation department. learned the hard way when my last acrylic tank started to leak because i didnt have fully supported bottom.
I've got a 220 acrylic, and I didn't bother with foam under it. But the top of my stand is doubled up 3/4" oak plywood, and nearly perfectly flat. Also, it was bought used (probably the 4th-5th owner at this point) so its not like I've got new tank with a warranty to maintain.
I use these neoprene exercise mat tiles under my tanks. Some have black bottoms and some have blue. Got them at Walmart. They provide some leveling adjustment, protect the tank bottoms from any imperfections in the stand surface, and insulate the tanks. Any excess that protrudes once the tank is filled can be trimmed off with a razor knife.
