Over the course of a couple months, I have managed to spread snail infestations to all of my tanks. I never wanted snails in ANY tanks. I'm curious to see how many tanks people have unintentional snail infestations in, where they came from, and the best method for removing them. The root of my problem; plants. However, I only have one planted tank.

More than likely started in your planted aquarium. Do you use the same equipment for all your tanks? Like fish nets or water changing equipment like jugs, buckets or hoses? This could explain the transfer of snails from one tank to another. Depending on the type of snail, some babies are barely visible, or you may overlook them thinking its a speck of dirt or algae on the glass. I got rid of my infestation useing aquarium salt. You can also boil some cucumber, put it in a plastic cup overnight and remove the snails as they pile on it to feed.

I only have 1 tank and it is infested with snails, actually the filter is as my Clown Loaches take care of any snails that enter the main tank.

The sanils got in the tank with some plants but the plants since died but the snails remian.

that cucumber trick is interesting, i might try it. how long do you boil it and how long do you leave it in?

i got my snails from a planted tank. my tank is salted, 2 tbs per 10 gallons but the snails still keep coming. i dont know what kind they are...

None of my tanks have snail infestations but there is one store here that has lots of snails in their African cicchlid tanks but none are visible in the other tanks.I always thought that was interesting.

tanks with snails-3.
unintentional-kind of 1, but not in a bad way.
one tank has 3 or 4 species.
one tank has 2.
one tank has one.
pond snails came with my plants and then were seeded into other tanks, MTS I bought on e-bay and seeded 2 tanks, and the mystery snails came from petsmart and a LFS and are in one tank. the maybe fourth species would be a native from my dad's pond, but I think the sunnies got to him before he could multiply. same way I have had 4 mystery snail egg clusters hatch but still have only 2 mystery snails.

My 500g is loaded with pond snails but my ray has become very proficient at eating them and she keeps the population in check

pretty sure all 7 of my tanks have varying degrees of snails all originating from my planted... and i'm cool with it. they help keep the tank balanced, and explosion in snail population means your not cleaning your tank often enough imo, they are clean-up crew... uneaten food ect = more snails less food = less snails. But I do keep loaches in my planted to tame them, and my rays have erradicated the ones in their tank lately as well. assassin snails are pretty cool too, I have like 2 of those.
