I have an 85 gallon tank (dimensions= 72"Lx15"Wx18"H) with two Penguin 350s running on it. I am going to be getting another (probably canister) filter that will sit under the tank and run along side the penguins. Plus I do a weekly 50% water change. I someday want to switch from my current stock and have a tank with just oscars (and maybe my favorite JD). I will be buying Juveniles so I want as many as possible. Obviously when they are bigger I can't have as many but I want to get a bunch of them for starters and pick my favorites then donate the rest to my lfs or sell them. Any suggestions of oscar color variations? once again I want to get many of them for starter then get rid of the ones I don't like as much.

If you are absolutely set on getting more than 2, start with 8 and then cut down to 2 or 1 once they hit 6" IMO, and they grow fast so...

2 max, although a wider tank would be ideal for these guys. A 15" wide tank is going to be barely wider than they are long at full grown size. If you get some, just know you may need a wider tank in the future.

I like the patterns on the wild caught oscars, but I believe they fade a lot as they grow.

It's pretty obvious in the OP that he's looking for multiple fish to grow out and select, might as well give an honest reply to the question/request instead of high and mighty elitist replies that will be ignored.

Sorry mis read the first post.

Sweet and I figured it would be two. I eventually want 2 Oscars as my main show fish and then a couple smaller fish to give the tank activity. What about other patterns? I really like the wild pattern. Tigers and reds and the white variants of the 2 patterns are really common. I've also heard of lemon Oscars. Is the lemon color real? I've heard it is because the fish are dyed. I don't like dyed. Haha

You can keep many young oscars there just remember they're fast growers.

In that setup and with those filters and taking your idea I'd get 10-12 to end up keeping three for life.

My faves are the Copper Oscar and the classical Tiger Oscar.

So I'd get 6 of each.

Cheers.
