How many Oscars in a 150?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you should get a group of small o's keep the first 2 that pair up and take the rest back. If you want a male/fem pair.....Do this first so they can focus on each other

A tank that size.....and I mean this in all kindness and just a suggestion......Get a better "show" fish. like a dovii, or some red devils (RD's are better than o's IMPO but not expensive type show just badass show), p-bass, aro, Maybe these fish couldn't be housed for life but they COULD be housed for years, long enough to get fry from the breedable ones or grow a covited fish to the point where a lover of that fish would want it for a good price! just some suggestions....Good luck with the project.

I have always been a fan of Oscars for some reason. I don't want to get a fish that will outgrow the 150 like a Pacu or Aro. The Dovii just doen't do it for me.

Would the small species of the aro, the jardini(sp?) go well with an Oscar?

In agreement with just a pair and no other fish where midswimming is concerned. You could add a tough bottom dweller to the mix like a common pleco imo.

if you plan on breeding you are going to want to avoid any catfish or plecos, because they are crazy egg eaters. the eggs will be very, very lucky to just last one night.

if i were you, i would do what oddball said, a pair of oscars, and 4 red bay snooks. good luck with the fishies:D

Very true on that end. My plecos wait around like vultures for fish eggs. I'm beginning to wonder if they have a sixth sense that knows when a midswimmer is gravid.

A pair it will be! I am going to get a small albino tiger and a regular tiger. I just need to decide what else to put in there with them. I am leaning towards a small school of silver dollars (3-5). I wouldn't mind another bigger fish or two, but I want as much harmony in the tank as possible.

I have two Rena XP 3's running for filtration. I might add a third if the two don't keep up. I want the water to be crystal clear and will spend what I need to (within reason).

I actually like Pacus, but I know a 150 wouldn't be big enough for one.

Silver dollars (especially some of the larger species like red hooks) should be fine. You can kinda see one of my silver $ below my sunshine Os.

3 oscars would be pushing it. a single adult oscar needs 75g.

I THINK 3 B FIN3 IF U GOT GOOD Filteration GO 4 IT

i have four in my 145 gal, with bichirs(5) silver dollars (6) GT and blood parrot, pim cat, raphael cat and pleco. I have good filtration.

as its got so much movement they never bother eachother too much except for the occasional bump or two
