The tank has been up and running for three years with large cichlids and plecos. The hardware includes an eheim 2260, rena 400 air pump, 801 power head and ebo-jager 250w heater.

Now it's time for a change, with two 30%-50% water changes per week how many adult peruvian scalare could I keep in this set up ?

I was inspired by a 300g half circle tank with 50 plus domestic angels I saw here on MFK (can't remember where) and would like as large a "herd" as possible.

Thanks in advance......

with any fish it's not about gallons. it's about surface area. a half circle tank is going to have less than a conventional tank. I would think that 15 adults max. 50 in a 300 is really overstocked. remember that angels breed like rabbits. when eggs are present there is going to be aggression. the parents will push the other fish to the other side of the tank. a school of 15 would be a beautiful sight and leave enough room for maybe a school of tetras or cories. you have to think about what the tank will look like when these fish are all 6-7 inches.

Thanks for your input Danny, I've been a long time admirer of your wild discus set ups and have a confession to make, I use your latest incarnation as a screen saver, hope you don't mind.

I purchased 19, - 10 to 50 cent sized peruvians three weeks ago, (lost one) they are doing well in a 90g bowfront with two small royal plecos, L190 + L027.

A week later I picked up four orinoco altums, dollar size, (unplanned, but coulld'nt resist). Put them in the 144g with six establisned large gallaxias pleco L240, lost one altum the first 48 hours, the rest are finding food no problem and seem to be thriving, knock on wood !

In a few months I would like to house all the angels in the 144g with the two royals. Since I am retired water changes every second day , or even every day would not be an issue. Is this a reasonable plan ?

Thanks again, Mark.

Just wanted to add the dimensions of the tank; 58" L x 29" D x 30" H

Plan B would have 7 angels in the 90g and 14 angels in the 144g. The royal plecos remaining in the 90 and the galaxias plecos in the 144.

you can put them all in the big tank and remove some if there are problems. you have an extra tank so thats a plus. I love half circle tanks. be sure to post some pics.
