So I have well established tank and I've been trying to raise some piranhas but they seem to just eat each other after awhile and are boring to look at because they just sit behind the same plant all day long. I have been trying to raise three and it doesn't seem to work, one always gets consumed. Whats a relatively safe number to have before they stop killing each other and will swim actively in the tank?

they're probably eating each other because they aren't being overfed and perhaps because they are somewhat crowded in your 75. Also, caribe, one of the first common names for piranha is derived from the word carib, meaning cannibal. Sometimes they just eat each other.

125 is minimum recommended size, but you can keep 6. A 75 is probably big enough to keep 4 for a really long time. As far as swimming actively in the tank, that's not really going to happen. Piranhas are ambush predators so they spend a lot of they're time sitting still and waiting to ambush things. Adding a strong powerhead will usually make them a little more active.

I personally think 4 piranhas is the smallest shoal I would go with, and even then, the tension doesn't always get broken up by the others.

I think 6 is a good number, but a 75 is cutting it a little small for life. That 75 gallon will definately hold 6 for quite some time though.

And as with any number of pirahna, nothing is guaranteed, and sometimes one or two just go missing.

depends on the size you get them at, if small you can probably put 6 to 8 in 75g (just make sure your filtration can keep up). even some got eaten you will still have a few left. 75g won't be idea for life but they don't grow to 10-12" over night so you should have couple years with the tank before you need to upgrade or thin out the shoal.
