Would a couple of pumpkinseeds be ok in a standard 75 gal tank? A friend is looking to rehome 4 of his. He said they are all about palm size, and I think they are living in a 55 gal tank. Thinking about taking them.

4 will be fine in a 75. They get pretty big and you will need to keep an eye on aggression. With four, make sure you have plenty of structure and hiding spots. Some argue that to cut down on aggression, you stock even more sunnies, to make sure that none are able to establish territories. Since I don't have much experience with the ladder, I only suggest that you first stick with the 4 you have, then make adjustments later.

Thanks.

Stopped by after work to see the fish. They are in a 55 gal and are bigger than I thought. Definately could use a good home. I may decide to take them, need to empty out my tank first.

You should take them for your 75 a 55 is probably too small for 4 of that size.

i love sun fish!!! beautiful, they would look great in a 75 i think. i just tried to add a blue gill to my 125..... long story short, he was nott in the same league as my xingu II pike. i had to give the blue away before my pike killed him. only took about 30 seconds to have to pull him out after a 2 day water acclamation. kinda sucked. wish he woulda made it in there.

pumpkinseeds are on the smaller end of the centrarchidae, and 4 in a 75 would be fine. Do you happen to know what sexes you have on hand? You should have either all male or one male and three females, but not a pair of pairs. That could lead to disaster should they get in the mood for spawning. My pumkinseed enjoys life in a 55 with an eel, a white cat, and a channel cat. Both the white and channel are getting moved to an indoor pond later this week, as they have outgrown the 55. The pumkinseed is definately the king of the tank though, and he's the smallest in there. Just watch for the agression.
Very personable fish. Mine stares at me the entire time I'm in my bedroom. Kinda weird having a fish stare at you in your, um, most private moments. He eats out of my hand, and is one of our favorite fish around here. He had a friend, but he killed him. With 4 fish of about the same size, you should be okay, and also if you introduce them all to the tank at the same time.
Pics please!

Not sure on the sex of the fish. I don't have them yet, probably in a week or two. The fellow that has them now caught them as juveniles. He said one (possibly a male) does get nippy once in awhile, especially with the sucker that lives in the tank. When I observed them, they all seemed peaceful.
