You mean for a return pump from the sump underneath the tank up into the tank?

As the water is circulating, there is no need for the air pump, but as the flow of the water from the mechanical filter is just being powered by gravity, you may not have enough circulation in the tank to lift debris into the water column and into the overflow.

I would add a couple of smaller submersible pumps on each end.

First thing is first. You are using a 6X2 as in a 180 gallon tank as a sump for an 8X2.5X2.5 show tank? so a 180 gallon sump for a 375 gallon show tank?

If so that is WAY over kill. A 55gallon sump would work just fine if desighned in a smart way.

thanks. I'm gonna be putting 2 arowanas and maybe 2 motoro rays in the tank, so bio load should be heavy :)
It would be ok for the dirt not to go to the sump. I do weekly water change and it would be easier to syphon, but might add a waver maker pointed downwards .

Up up :) would it be ok to have just the sump as main filtration for my tank? and only sponge filters as backup in case of power outage. the sponge filters will be connected to ACDC pump.

Alot of people run only the pump in the sump, 2 and in case of Power failure they use an inverter to invert +12vt (car battery) to 110Vt AC...
Is PI 220vt AC still?

Thanks. yup Pi is still on AC 220V, Electricity cost is quite high here :(

It's not cheap here either... Regular 3bdrm, 2 bath, 68degree heated, 4 tank household last month was
>> $414.00 usd <<
that's why I need to go to 1 tank, with sponges and an Eheim 2180

What pump is in your sump?

wow thats also quite expensive , advantage here in PI is we don't neede heaters, but airconditioning :) I'm planning to use a Rio HF20 for my return pump , problem is its also 50 watts :)
