Ok so about mid month I'm going to pick up my first rays and want your input on what a good combo might be. I want them to eventually breed and I'm thinking either really nice marble motoro, Henlei, or leos. Should I try to get maybe like 2m 1f of one species? Can I have 2 pairs? How many rays would you recommend for breeding in my 500g 8x4x2 with the stock in my sig

I was thinking a trio also. The only fish I'm a little worried about is my 22" ornate birchir. They will get along ok?

I have some 18" Polyptreus Endlicheri with some of my rays and they are doing great.

i keep 4 to 6 large rays comfortably in my 4x8x2.

u need filtration to handle this though

It's impossible to say, everyone's experiences are different.

I tried 8 rays in a 4x10 and it failed big time.

Will depend on your ray's temperment, your feeding and maintainance regimen and like Trev said, filtration.

Shawn's having luck with a big Endli with smaller rays. I had a 20" Ornate that hated rays.

I have 9 -4x4x18" tanks, that i stack rays in ,as long as i keep the water changes to every 2-3 days, they do fine, filtering with 2 sponge filters and 1 ehiem knock off filter.I also have 2 ponds 6x4x2 stocked with 8-10" rays ,change 1/2 water every three days, have only 1 ehiem knock off filter, sump with bio balls.and 1 large pump putting water from the pond into filter and then split to circlulate the water in pond, they are all doing great.I try and keep ph at 6.5-6.8.

AL,what happened to the ray in the avaitar ?
Also those are Pearl/Motoro's pictured.

The avatar ray is fine. When MFK came back online the pic was gone. I'm in the depths of hating rays right now so I thought I'd change the avatar to something I can't kill..... My beloved Morays...... When the rays get me down I tend to enjoy the Morays. Despite owning an Aimara NOTHING holds a candle to a tank of Morays in feeding frenzy mode.

Maybe I should bring my big girl up and we can see how many rays you can keep with her...... ;)
