how many RDs kept in a single tank

How big are the red devils you are looking at getting? If any of them are over about 6 inches, most likely it will kill kill every other labiatus in that size tank IME.
You might be able to get 3 or 4 four inchers living together for a little while, but even thats doubtful under most circumstances, unless you can vent and put 3 females to 1 male.

You could get a breeding pair for a tank that size , just make sure the Female can get away and hide in places the male cannt fit into .
Or if you want to , you might be able to grow out a fair few . ( 10+ maybe ) til there about 3 - 4inch and then you will see some argo' in the tank and you will have to start rehoming them all .
