How many shellies?

I have a little 12g that I want to use for some "shellies". Now I know I am fairly limited due to the size of the tank but after a fair amount of research I think
Neolamprologus*Multifasciatus are going to be most suitable.

My question is how many could I put in a 12g?

Multifasciatus are like the guppies of Lake Tanganyika. Start out with a pair and eventually you will have a slew of them. Once had a 100 multies in a 10 gallon tank. Just keep up with the water changes and provide them with lots of shells. In a 12 gallon tank you can start out with 2-8 fish.
