Hey guys, I did done fishing today and I brought home a group of pumpkinseeds, all ranging from 4 to 5.5 inches. I've got them in my 30 gal quarantine tank to treat them for internal parasites and anything else they may be carrying...my goal here is to move some of them into my 75 gallon tank and set it up as a native river style set up. I'm 99% positive that I currently have 3 males and 1 female...what would be most ideal in a 75 gallon? Keeping just a male and female pair? All males? 1 male and try to get more females? I like the idea of a single pair but I'm not sure how it would work. Whichever ones I can't keep I can add to my buddy's big pond down the street so that's not an issue, let me know what you Guys think! Thanks :)

Single male with female will be good in a 75. Just make sure you add some hiding spots for the female.

Sounds good to me then! How big do you think I should expect them to grow? I caught them from a big pond here in Mass, apparently some other sunfish like bluegills don't grow as large here in Mass. and the rest of New England as they do further south...is it the same story with Massachusetts p.seeds?

Pumpkinseeds grow much smaller in Europe than America because of diet and competition, if you feed them well and give them enough space they can grow to 10inches no problem; to keep your female safe I would put two females in and add Driftwood, plants and dithers.

Ok so should I assume somewhere between 5 and 10 inches? The male is already about an even 5 inches and the female i have is about 4.5 inches very close to the males size

Yes its all dependent on their diet, amount of living space and health, Pumpkinseeds have been caught that were 12 inches long......but those were record sized fish; its much more common in America to see them in between the sizes of 6-10 inches in the wild.
