Well the silver dollars I got as targets for my tank were too small, and bigger ones are hard to find around here, so they got dumped in another tank.. I'm going to try a larger one that's reletively easy to get here, red tail tinfoils. I know they can get to a pretty decent size, but don't want to overcrowd too bad. Current stock is:

9" jag
7" escondido
5" argentea
4" loiselli
4" salvini
2" festae

Now all the fish are males besides the argentea and festae, which I can't find out the sexes.. Keep in mind this is not going to be their tank for life, but for quite a while..

So how many you think? I'm not sure if they need to have a group, or if 3 would be fine, which is what I was thinking.

Also, could 3 or so Leporinis' work too as targets, or should I stick to the tinfoils. Thanks..

I would do at least 3, but that's not to say you couldn't squeeze 1 or 2 more in.

The red tail tinfoil barbs max out around 8" from what I've read. You should get at least three imo because they're a schooling fish.

I'm not sure about them maxing out at 8"...

I knew a woman who had 6 in a 125g and within a few years the largest one had grown to 16"+

You would want the Barbonymus altus, not the Barbonymus schwanenfeldii. Here's a few links to back me up. They would be a much better fit as a schooling fish for your 180.

i had three but now only one due to my random ammonia spike last year (still don't know what happened) but they do grow to a max of 18in so plan accordingly. they make a great dither but tend to harass fish with a slimecoat

I would go with 5, thats what I have in my 125. The biggest one I have is around 14"

Keep in mind the stock I have now, which if everything goes right with them maturing will stay that way.. And how much room I will have

And I'm also looking at the red tails, from petsmart, not the regulars
