Hi everyone. Im asking this question for my sister's BF, who has just recently finished building a 3000 gallon pond (i'll get pics later) in his basement. he does not know how much watts of heating he should use. The difference in fahrenheit between the tank and his room is 6 degrees F.

What do you think would be enough wattage?

The GENERAL rule is 5 watts per gallon. 3000X5-15,000

BUT I have, and know people, with 1200 gallon indoor ponds that only use 1000 watts. 1000 watts for a 1200 gallon pond works fine for me.

So If you go 1000 watts per 1000 gallon, that would equal around 3000 watts for a 3000 gallon pond.

I would start with around 1500-2000 watts and see how hot that heats the pond, and then go from there.

i agree with the gen. rule 5 watts per gallon

i have a 250 gal. pond in my cellar with 2,300 watts heaters and my temp.stays around 76 degrees. i a used honey container i got for work , i cut the top off and gave it a good clean. i uesd a strong vinger mix and hot water to clean the container. i builted a plexiglass cover that i mounted on top of the container,so i can see my fish. i have this setup for 2 years i will post pic soon
