i have a 65 gallon tank with a built in wet @ dry trikle filter+ a canister filter. how many malawi cichlids can you put in to allow for breeding and such.
if you want to breed, fill it half way so that you leave room for offspring. i say about 6-8. assuming they get 5"
You could put in about 15-20 fish comprising 4-5 species. They will breed quite easily. Give lots of rocks for fry to hide in.
i would say if you breed do not go over 10! if they are all the same species and only a couple males all the rest female alot more!
You could start with 12 - 15 but I would cull it down to 7 - 10 once they have paired off. That way it will leave room for the fry to grow. Start w/ small groups of fish and let them pair off maybe 3-4 diff. species.
if you have only a couple males and a lot of females you can keep more because males usually fight for females! and territory but some males will breed witha couple females at a time
