How much is too much?
I have a mated dempsey pair, as you may have already read, the male and EBJD and the female jack dempsey... they have spawned 4 times within the past year. The 2nd clutch of eggs nothing hatched because I moved the pair a few hours before they laid eggs... whatever happened or didnt happen was my fault.. I should have left them alone.. Right now I have a batch of about 100 fry about 2 1/2 months old closer to 3 months in a 55 gal.. They are doing awesome! But about an hour ago they spawned again... yeilding a lot of eggs.. This leads me to the point...
How much breeding is too much??
I assume too much will weaken the gene pool. When do I seperate the 2? 4 times a year too much? I've read that they can spawn up to once every month or 2... That seems excessive to me.
