Okay, I finally found out the hard way that my PH was too low (6). I used a powder called Akaline Buffer and now all my fish are doing great. I know that alot of people are against using chemicals but it really worked. Now, I want to use crushed coral to stabilize my PH to about 7.4. I have a 110 gallon tank divided in half with a flowerhorn on one side and a couple of parrots on the onther side. Here are some questions: 1. I plan to put the coral in a pair of pantyhose but how much coral do I need? 2. Should I divide the the coral and put one on each side? 3. Do I ever have to change the coral? 4.
Before I used the buffer powder, my tank water's PH was at 6.0 so what would it be with the coral. 5. How often should I change the water and how much? 5. Since the PH is higher now, would the PH level drop with the water change and if it does, how soon would the water go back to the PH before the water change. Lots of questions so I hope lots of answers and opinions. Thanks again, Ed.

You can use as much cc as you want, you can even use it instead of gravel with such low pH, I use it in my filters, a basket full will usually raise my pH from low 6's to mid/upper 7's. With cc you don't have to worry about sudden spikes or drops, like you do with chemical buffers.

Doesn't matter which side of divider its on, it'll leach calcium and will be distributed throughout the tank.

BTW as far as water changes, just maintain your normal schedule and all will be fine.
