Over there
I just upgraded the filter on my 150 and the pump is rated at 2000gph but since it's pushin up about 4ft, I'm guessin it's around 1500gph currently. My polys were fine with this but hopefully in the next few months, I will be putting my goonch in there when it gets a little more size so since goonches like strong current, I wanted the polys to get used to the extra current so I put my koralia rated at 2750gph for a total of 4250gph. Is this just way too much for my polys? They're not gettin blown around but I'm just worries that this is just too much for them since the koralia is on the bottom where the goonch will be sittin in front of it most of the time. Thanks guys.

What's the size of your polys? Over 16" I would say no problem. Can they get to their food? I know polys like to rest. So if they are constantly having to fight the current I'd say back it off. Im sure it depends on tank dementions as well. Id just watch them closely and look for signs of stress. Watch that goonch closely. I know eventually a poly would be a good snack for it. Good luck!

if youre worried that it is too much, then maybe you could create some refuge and hides from the stong current like pipe and flowerpots etc.

4250gph on a 150 is 30 times an hour turnover. this does sound like overkill. its expensive in terms of electricity bill but also your bb-Nwaste contact time is reduced and this 'may' compromise your biofiltration.

Thing is, of your fish seem happy, and youre not bothered about your bill, and your params are good then filter away my friend.

Thanks for the response guys. The goonch isn't in there yet, but it will be in the next couple months. The big polys are around 16" but I have some smaller ones around 10". The 4250gph flow is just the amount of current running in the tank total. The actual turnover rate is 10x since the pump in the sump is only running 1500gph and my overflow is rated at 1600 gph, but I see what you're saying. I think I'll take the koralia out and place a smaller, less powerful pump since it's not necessary that the entire tank be high current, just the spot where I want the goonch to hang out at.

I just added a big power head to my 150g. All my big guys try to avoid it but my delhezi gets right in front of it and swims in it. Pretty funny to watch. He has always been the "odd one" in the tank.

I wonder about this too. Right now I only have my return pump from my sump at about 1400 gallons per hour pointed at a 45 degree angle, 6-8" from the waters surface, and a marineland emperor 400 for flow.
