Require it? no. Like it? Yes. Mine was always swimming and he preferred to swim toward my output where he would almost exercise at times in the current

Odoe live in standing water near the shoreline or in stagnant lakes. They may tolerate current and experience it in certain habitats, but they most certainly do not need it.
