My bichir is about 5-6 inches. I currently feed my bichir beef heart and sometimes brine shrimp. I feed frozen San Francisco bay brand beef heart. I usually feed 1/3-1/2 of the cube but I don't really know how much to feed him. I inherited the bichir from my brother when he passed this year, so I will do anything to keep him alive.

Does anyone know how much of the cubes to feed him, or if there is a better food source and if so how much of that should I feed. I also do every other or every week feed him a few ghost shrimp purchased from my local fish store.

Edit: I'm going to bed so I'll most likely respond tomorrow morning or afternoon

I’d suggest feeding every other day. I would try to avoid the beef heart and shrimp. Try getting it on a pellet of some sort. Too much beef heart and shrimp is not always good.

I have a 3 inch endi I'm growing out I feed him peaces of tilapia and shrimp x2 a day remove any uneaten food. If he takes pellets you can do that. There more active at night so if he's not eating yet try feeding

While there’s no problem with the fish eating shrimp, at 5 to 6 inches, you should try to graduate it to bigger type of shrimp, such as mysis, prawns, or cut supermarket frozen shrimp. I agree with feeding every other day, but no more than it will eat in a few minutes. This will keep its digestive system from being constantly full, which isn’t healthy for it. Also try to mix the diet up. Try a week of shrimp, followed by cut fish, followed by blood worms or earthworms, then maybe pellets(if it will eat them). The beef heart is is fine, but only as an occasional treat. I’ll give mine one feeding of it once a month.

I kinda forgot about this, but thanks for the advice. I will try to change into a different type of shrimp and feed less. Also I have some bloodworms from my fathers tank so I will feed those too. Thanks again.

I agree with this 100% we feed all our fish every other day, except our puffer fish who gets fed every day. A hungry bichir is a happy bichir.
