I got a top less with a water fall (Filter outlet) in to the tank. I have 3 large bamboo plants in there im curious if they are just ornamental or if they actually helped with nitrates ammonia etc.
yeah mine is rather slow. I just want one of those 5 ppm nitrate tanks. My betta is stoked he got a 15 gallon with tons of bamboo and plants and even an eclipse 1 hood with bio wheel.
Anyways on topic! They have it for sale cheap should I jump on it for the waste removal component ?
If you're only stocking the betta, this can be a tricky task. You could definitely get enough bamboo in there, to keep nitrates at 0. However, going overboard on the bamboo, you'll run into what a lot of higher end planted tanks run into. Not enough Nitrate production to fuel the plants. Thus you get plant die off from not enough nitrates. I'd get enough you want for cosmetic reasons. Then you can dose nitrates if you need too.
Well my tap water has 20 ppm nitrates. I bet if I did a water change that would give them food. Im not sure what the bamboo is called but its twisted like it was wrapped around a pole for a while.
