Sometimes my festae only get the natural light during the day with no time with the tank light on. Now that the days are very short, I feel as if maybe they are spending too much time in the dark. When I get home a little later than normal, it appears as if the fish are out of it for a while. Will the lack of routine with their lighting effect them at all?
How much do the lights matter?

Other than possibly washing their colors out a bit, no. Just try not to make the routine different all the time.
