Was curious how much a standard glass 60gl tank would be to ship from Los Angeles to Seattle

Any guesses (havent called yet...)

Thanks, Ill check tha out.

Maybe I should ask what is a ball park wieght of a 60gl glass tank?

Empty 60g is around 110# I believe, standard skid which may not work (as they are 40" x 48" but you could always cardboard up the sides really well or do kitty-corner) is 50#. So 160# total, if you know someone who does a bit of LTL I'd give them a call as they will get better pricing.

Im not sure what the # means... but am I understanding that a 60gl is about 110lbs?
and you estimate it coming out to $160??

Wow, didnt think it was so much. I was trying to ship my 60gl to my aunt that just visited me and fell in love with my 300gl. A lil bigger than her 20gl and was thinking of trying to surprise her with a 60gl that I have... dont think its going to happen tho.

Thanks for the info :-)

# = pounds

How much does a 60g tank cost there?

Around here we can get a 55g for 1 dollar a gallon at certain times of the year in lfs's. And I would bet it would cost more than 60 bucks to ship.

The longest thing i have ever shipped is a fishing pole in a 5" dia cardboard tube that was 5.5' in length thru usps and that costs around 30 bucks. So you can imagine what the shear bulk size of a rectangular box would do to that price.

Maybe try to find a LFS around your aunt and buy a gift certificate over the phone for a tank set up, for her?
