Hey guys,

My tank has dual 1" over flows and dual 3/4" returns (which are plumbed at 1" pre and post bulkhead)

I just returned my mag 12 bc I decided I wanted to run a FBF or a UV filter off a T in the return line.

Do you think a Mag 24 or a Mag 18 would offer enough flow to accomodate about 5.5' head and 6+ feet of horozontal flow resistance and also run a FBF off the ball valved T connection?

at 5.5' the Mag 24 is 1775 gal/hr, Mag 18 is 1160gal/hr

In the mean time, i have a ball valve on the T and its plumb just to return extra flow back into the sump (as to not create undo back pressure on the pump). I'm thinking I might as well go with the Mag 24 bc of my "run off loop", however the power consumption is almost 2x as much as the Mag 18.

FWIW the Mag 18 flows just a lil more than the Mag 12 at 5 feet but I assume it will offer more flow to the T valve connection than the Mag 12.

HELP!

The mag 18 or 24 is plenty to run a fbf. Im just using powerheads to run mine. The most youll need is about 200gph to run one.

yea... justgo buy a powerhead....
alot easier and you can get one for 20$

Yeah, run the FBF off a small powerhead.

The bacteria in an FBF die really quickly when the water flow stops. Apparently, it takes muck less than an hour. With a dedicated powerhead you can turn off your main pump for whatever reason and your FBF won't die off.

Put the powerhead in the sump and just dump the FBF output back into the sump.
