I have 3 silver dollars that are about 3 to 4 inches and a silver dollar that is about 1.5 inches in a 29 gallon tank with 4 giant danios, a pleco, and a catfish. Recently they began fighting. The others except for the smaller one have beat up tails. I know schooling fish like these nip at each other but is this too much fighting when their tails are begining to be tattered? Does anyone have any idea why this suddenly started after roughly 2 months of being in the tank together? About 1.5 weeks ago I changed the decorations around because I had to move them to another 29 because the first started leaking. Could it be that they are trying to restablish the dominance line? Will this calm down? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

First of all, your tank is too small. The silver dollars are not even half grown, your pleco, you did'nt say what kind, will grow much larger also, a common pleco will reach 18" or more. What kind of catfish do you have? hopefully it's not a red tail for they will grow to over 48". It is so important to do research on every fish you intend to purchase. The size of tank will determine what sort of fish you can house for their entire life. Try turning your lights off, this will usually calm the fish down. Fish need adequate room to survive and to be healthy. The tank you have should only have about 8 fish that only grow to only 3" in length. The fish you currently have, excluding the catfish, need a tank of at least 100 gallons.

agreed^ your tank is over stocked hence the aggression. Upgrade or the stress will continue.
