How much do others pay for live minnows in their local bait shop?

I don't normally pay for them. I just catch small fish in our lake and use them as bait on occasion.

Got this small styrofoam tub filled with a dozen minnows for $ 3.75 from a vending machine at the Homestead Walmart. Went there to look for lures. Our local Walmart and Sports Authority were out of stock of the lures I needed. I was just curious what I could get for $ 3.75.

I have to move farther North. We're being ripped off down here. lol

What kind of minnows are those?
Up here you get a scoop (about 3 or 4 dozen) for $2.50.

LOL, those minnows in the vending machine are actually alive? I always assumed they were dead and salted or something.

I think they are fathead minnows.

One of the other selection from the machine said 3 or 4 shiners for $ 3.75 and 2 dozen night crawlers for $ 3.00

Yes! they were actually alive. Two of them were already dead when I opened the tub, though. The note on the vending machine said it was last serviced 9/21/2007. So they were alive in the tub for at least 4 days. The tub came out cold/chilled like a bottle of water or soda does.:)

I can get a gallon of minnows for $20. Have to have the space to keep em all though....lasts 2 months or so for me.

I thought they chilled and doped them too.

Most likely doped or sedated to reduce activity. There were also tiny pebbles on the bottom with ragged edges, probably ammonia absorbing media.
