Don't forget most spotted gars sold in Ontario are FLG's. None of my FLG's were labelled correctly when I bought them.
But I agree, it depends on who's selling it and how much the buyer is willing to pay. I saw a 12" shortnose for $25 (I was so mad when I told them to hold it and they didn't) in one store, and a 12" shortnose for $100 from a private seller.
BA's Hamilton had a customer 'donation' shortnose that they were selling off at $25. I told them to hold it for me, and when I got there, they were all cheery and told me they sold it an hour ago. I wanted to go on a tantrum.
The other one; Kijiji. There were a few different species up for sale, too.
true spotted(that can be confirmed) tend to command a price over 50 bucks.
Shortys about the same.
Remember these two species DONT show up in the hobby outside of small amounts of people getting them and selling
Platostomus will show up from time to time As Marble gar or even Alligator. These are being bred in Asia as well as in the states. Very few ever come through but they do come through...... Spotteds.... Hell I have not seen one other than a Wild caught Hobbyist to Hobbyist sale or the special case where Solomon released a few of our research fish in some 10 years.. They are just not in the hobby market.
