As the title states, how much and how often do you feed your puffer?

Currently my 14" Fahaka will eat every day or other day between:

2-3 mussels or 3 prawns or 6 scallops + pellets or 3-4 crayfish...

But she doesnt seem to be fattening up (guessing its maybe to do with IPs)

So yeah, just want to hear your feeding schedules to see if im under feeding or not

Filbert gets a good, big round belly feeding 1-2x/week & light feedings every 2-3 days or so (mostly for his tank mates).

^ Hey PP, since i know Filbert is around the same size as my Tiny, i'm just wondering, how much food can he eat during one of his big meals? coz i'm just trying to gauge roughly how much other peoples puffers eat, and since you have a fahaka, i thought it might be a good comparison for me...

2-3 lg shrimp or 3-4 clams or 7-8 earthworms.

Thanks for the reply PP... I guess my puff is getting about the right amount of food afterall...

Right now, because Zelda is so tiny, we are doing daily breakfast and bed time snack. For breakfast, we have a krill, and for bedtime snack we have a couple of mysis shrimp or some blood worms. We aim for a round belly, and only offer the bedtime snack if there is no belly left. If he still has some belly, we do not feed again. So far, we've put on at least 1/2" since we got him.

Krill is one of the worst things you can feed to your fish. It has been known to cause lockjaw in puffers. Go to the produce/fish dept of your grocery store. You can get a frozen medley of smaller foods: squid, clam, oyster, mussels, shrimp, etc. Puffers also love live crabs & worms. Frozen/FD mysis or plankton are good too.

Good to know. We've been giving him little pieces of raw shrimp and other seafood, too. The krill was just an example, mainly used to give an idea of the size of food he's eating. I sure didn't know that would be bad for him, though. All the homework I did said that he'd like them and they were a good choice. You learn something new every day, I guess! :)
