How much should I expect to pay for a 180 gallon aquarium brand new? I want to get a new one just to be safe. I am looking for tank and stand.

Think some of that depends where you are located. Brand new in Pittsburgh you are looking at roughly $1,000 for a brand new standard 180. Stands are all over the pace depending on how fancy you get. I would stay constructed stands are roughly $850 and up.

Holy crap! I am in South Florida! So I bet I am looking at $8-$900- just for the tank and another $8-$900 for the stand. Fish are reasonably priced here at my local fish stores it's the aquariums and supplies that kill you. Why do fish stores charge so much for aquariums and supplies yet so little for fish? Is it because of the warranties?
Plus another $2-$400 if I want a good quality canister filter.
Hopefully my tax return is good. I really want a 180 gallon.
Wonder how much a new 150 gallon or 125 goes for?

I haven’t bought a new large tank in years. I scrounged Craigslist for my 150. Got tank and stand for $400 I think.

you can get the petsmart 150g for $750ish - with stand (not good) , tops , and light… on black friday maybe lil cheaper -

glass cages is the cheapest- FTD may have something…. 2nd hand may be ur best best if on a budget…

here a 180g marineland with stand is $2k

i have this 150g 48”x24”x30” - would be good for a puffer, africans, or a bigger not active fish… stand could use bracing….

tbh, all this ish costs money… food, electric, time…

GL!

Yeah, for anything around 200ish and up the price difference for glass vs acrylic is nonexistent. You're looking at around $1600-$1800 and up for the tank alone. Custom stuff is more overbuilt than the big box stuff, which is adequate. Up to 150 gallon you can go 'big box.' You save on the package, but the stands aren't the best so over time you end up making one or ordering a heavy duty lifetime one.

I ordered my 225 glass through Custom Aquariums. Thought I'd save on the stand. So I purchased a different (wood) stand for $600 bucks. Well that sucker deflected, bowed and started to split after a year. So I bit the bullet and spent $1200 on an aluminum frame stand. It has no deflection, can't rust, and ain't going anywhere. Its so solid on the floor if I have overflow it just puddles around the bottom. And because its through the same company there's a lifetime warranty.

My 225 has a marine grade steel frame...I could dance on the sucker and not make a dent.

So realistically you're looking at around $2400, give or take a couple shills for a setup you won't have to repair or replace. Assuming its a basic setup without extra plumbing cuts.

My custom acrylic 125 was around $1900. If it were standard it would have been $1450. I had it designed to hold 125 for actual volume, not the 125 model size. It also had larger custom cuts up top for filtration and deco...something to keep in mind with acrylic with the 'closed' tops.

Quality stands for big acrylic can get pricey, like $1500-$3000. Look to spend up to $5,000+ if you have steel or aluminum tubing stand with cross bracing and a real big tank (like 350 gal and up). They'll hold anything but you'll pay. That's why I'm going with cinder block.

My 180 was $3600. That was tank reef ready, furniture grade stand and canopy made from walnut. Tank was $900 stand and canopy was the rest. If you have any carpentry skills and basic tools you can make a nice stand alot cheeper. I've made a few stands in my time and I really had 0 carpentry skills before buying my first house.
