Hey everyone, I've been wondering this for sometime now. I'm curious. I have a 65 gallon tank, all live plants that most are doing great and some struggling. They aren't dying but not really flourishing. I have Co2, HOB marineland (largest they have) and a converted 10 gallon tank into a sump. It just has bioballs and sock filter. I have a lot of fish and water quality is top notch. Theres no readings of anything , at least as best you can tell with chemical tests. I also have air stone in each corner to help movement plus a wave maker to circulate.
So with that said, what's your opinion, do you think there's too much mech filtration. Maybe turn off the HOB. I'm just wondering if I am stripping too much waste from the tank for the plants...

Like I said they are mostly doing really well only a couple that just aren't flourishing. Oh and I also add liquid fert and tabs.

Thanks

I don't think you can have 'too much' filtration.

IMO the plants will extract all the nitrogen they need before the water goes into the sump.

Too much filtration? or too much flow?
To me that isn't too much filtration, whether flow is too much, is another question.
A certain plants being blown around?
Some plants like a lot of flow, some don't. My Vallisneria do great with lots of flow, others not so much.

There is also the question of plant compatibility. Even plant wars.....
Some plants don't do well right next to certain others.
Although my Crypts did well in close quarters with Vallisneria.
My Sword plants languished, and almost disappeared when placed where a forest of Vallisneria overwhelmed them,
that is until I moved them to a better spot, and found a more comparable placement, after a little experimenting .

But given a better spot where they didn't need to battle for root space, and nutrients, did much better.

To get the sword healthy, I had to carve out a space in a log, add substrate, and place it closer to Peter light,
